Today we're moving on to the second golden age issue of Amazing Adventures (May 1951); originally published by Ziff-Davis. The GCD doesn't identify the writer of "Monsters of Living Flame" but the artwork is by the team of Arthur Peddy & Bernard Sachs.
The lead character of this story, Jon Haljan, is introduced as the pilot of an Earth-Moon mailship. Why he was chosen to mount an expedition to the planet Vulcan to secure the rare element called Uranium-X is beyond me, and for the record, the next time that the token female is as savvy as this cutie is, perhaps Jon should actually listen to her. Oh, and you won't be seeing Mr. Spock on this version of Vulcan (just wanted to clear that up).
The front cover painting is credited to Alex Schomburg and you'll also get to laugh along with the inside front cover humor filler, Cosmic Comics. See you next Saturday for more cool sci-fi action.
Enjoy!
